Privacy Policy

PetForWeb reads nothing you browse.

The extension does not read page content, open tabs, or browsing history. It does not replace or override your new tab page. It is a virtual dog companion — tricks, dress-up, cursor play, games, and a side panel — not a page reader or productivity scanner.

PetForWeb ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains, in plain language, what the Chrome extension and related services collect, what they do not, and how to reach us. It is meant to match our Chrome Web Store data-handling disclosure.

1. Permissions We Use

PetForWeb uses a small permission set. We do not request access to read website content or your browsing history.

  • storage — save your dog, outfits, tricks, preferences, and local progress in Chrome storage
  • alarms — schedule gentle reminders and timed pet behaviors
  • idle — notice when you step away so the dog can nap or settle calmly
  • sidePanel — open the cozy side-panel home (doghouse Hub)
  • https://api.petforweb.com/* — optional account sign-in and sync of the data you choose to keep with your account
  • https://api.open-meteo.com/* — optional weather care (general weather context only; not used to read the pages you visit)

The dog can appear as an overlay on ordinary web pages so you can play with it while you browse. That display layer does not scrape, summarize, or store the page. Chrome's own pages (settings, Web Store, and some other restricted URLs) may block overlays for security reasons.

2. What We Do Not Collect

In line with our Chrome Web Store listing, PetForWeb does not collect or use:

  • Website content or page text
  • Web history or a list of sites you visit
  • Open-tab inventories or tab titles as a product feature
  • New-tab override or new-tab browsing data (we do not change your new tab)
  • Passwords, form fields, payment details, or keystrokes
  • Private messages or personal email contents
  • Advertising profiles built from your browsing

We do not sell personal information.

3. Information We May Collect

On your device (local)

Most play works offline from local Chrome storage — for example breed and look, name, outfits (goodies), learned tricks, game progress, stars, and settings.

If you create an account

Sign-up is optional. If you create an account, we use your email (and related auth/session data) to sign you in, plus age confirmation where required (13+). We may sync the pet data you choose to keep with that account (such as breed, outfits, tricks, and preferences). That is for your companion — not for tracking which websites you visit.

Product analytics (extension events)

We may record coarse product events to keep the extension healthy — for example install, summon, feed, start a game, or create a share link. These events are about the pet product, not about the content of pages you browse.

Technical information

  • Browser type and version
  • Extension version
  • Basic device/environment info when needed for support or crash diagnosis

4. Optional On-Device Smart Chat

Optional Smart chat can use Chrome's on-device AI for playful replies and natural-language trick commands. It runs on your machine when Chrome supports it.

Smart chat processes the chat text you type. It does not read the webpage, your tabs, or your history. You can leave it off; core dog play (tricks, cursor play, dress-up, games, care) works without it.

5. How We Use Information

  • Run the virtual dog, Hub, tricks, cursor play, games, and side panel
  • Remember your settings and sync them when you are signed in
  • Support optional on-device Smart chat when you enable it
  • Optional weather care via Open-Meteo when that feature is on
  • Improve reliability, fix bugs, and prevent abuse
  • Respond to support requests you send us

6. Where Data Is Stored

  • Locally in your browser (Chrome storage)
  • On PetForWeb servers if you sign in and sync
  • With trusted infrastructure providers we use to run the service

We use reasonable security measures to protect stored information.

7. Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal information.

We may share information only:

  • With service providers needed to operate PetForWeb
  • When required by law
  • To protect users or our systems from abuse or security threats

8. Retention and Your Choices

We keep information only as long as needed to provide the service, maintain accounts, improve the product, prevent abuse, or meet legal duties.

  • Leave Smart chat off anytime
  • Delete your account from extension Settings (Account), or email us to request deletion
  • Clear local extension data in Chrome
  • Uninstall PetForWeb anytime (right-click the icon → Remove from Chrome)

9. Children

PetForWeb is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. International Processing

Depending on where you live, information may be processed or stored in other countries. By using PetForWeb, you acknowledge that this may happen.

11. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top shows the latest revision. Material changes may also be noted in the extension or on the website.
